This study analyzes the meanings of the unborn for women whose pregnancies have been interrupted, either by abortion or miscarriage, in two different contexts: a women’s circle devoted to New Era Spirituality and a case of evidence-based activism. Based on an interpretative paradigm and qualitative methods, the article suggests that women bond with the unborn by including them in notion of social production and granting them a legal or symbolic recognition. That approach does not rule out an activism which calls for the legalization of abortion and women’s autonomous right to decisions about maternity.
