The Role of Attitudes in Learning Mathematics.

Abstract

The joy of discovering the orderliness of mathematical relationships, so the story goes, illuminates the basic structure of the discipline and turns reluctant pupils into eager mathematical explorers. Implicit in such recommendations is a belief that something called plays a crucial role in learning mathematics. First, certain attitudes toward or beliefs about mathematics are thought to be important objectives of instruction. Second, positive attitude toward mathematics is thought to play an important role in causing students to learn mathematics.
