Explicitly introducing temporal variables increases the expressiveness of temporal process models significantly while maintaining the ability to check dynamic controllability of process definitions. We formally define the semantics of process models with temporal constraints and temporal variables and present procedures for checking the correctness of temporal process models in form of dynamic controllability. We show how temporal variables can be used to cope with application relevant requirement patterns, which are not yet supported. On the other hand for general process definition languages like BPMN this work extends the set of process definitions which can effectively be checked for controllability.
