This chapter draws on my artistic work and experience teaching computer music and multimedia (Brown University, USA), music and creative music technology (Kingston University, London) and popular and contemporary music (Newcastle University, UK). I suggest that a discussion around practice-as-research can usefully contribute to creative teaching for creative learning in higher music education. My aims are: (1) to solidify practice-as-research as a valid academic method; (2) to provide idiosyncratic answers to the question, ‘What is research-led teaching when the research is based around practice?’, and (3) to consider broad differences and similarities at the above institutions.
