Best-In-Class Multigenerational Human Resource and Diversity Policies and Programs

Abstract

Chapter 6 focuses on best-in-class human resource and diversity programs and policies that contribute to an integrated multigenerational talent strategy in higher education. Given the fact that most colleges and universities have not operationalized an integrated multigenerational workforce strategy, the chapter identifies seven strategic institutional initiatives that can accelerate the attainment of an intergenerational workforce strategy. The seven initiatives address the entire talent cycle encompassing all stages of an employee’s career ranging from recruitment and retention to retirement. The chapter identifies areas which already have well-developed practices, as well as areas that need institutional attention. Each initiative is illustrated with representative best practice examples from the higher education workplace.
