Abstract Although the Antonine Age produced much less Greek poetry than prose, there is still far more than can be assessed adequately in a single paper, and to help me in my task I focus on a shorter period, the reigns of Hadrian, Pius, and Marcus. Even here I must be selective, but I make no apology for including the reign of Hadrian, since so many of the poets of the period AD 1 1 7-80 flourished under him, some indeed as a direct result of his interest.
