This chapter applies neuropsychological concepts to the interpretation of performance on the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Fifth Edition (WISC-V). The WISC-V provides additional process approach interpretive information that can enhance subtest level score interpretation or extend below the subtest level to characterize performance on item clusters within subtests. The chapter discusses subtest, item, and construct-level interpretation following the Index and domain organization of the WISC-V, but alternate subtest cluster formats also will be suggested to align more closely specific composite-level interpretation with a neuropsychological cognitive construct perspective. Assessment of visual processing speed, therefore, is the primary focus of interpretation of the Processing Speed Index as well as for each of the individual Processing Speed subtests. The Naming Speed Literacy Subtest is intended to assess the automaticity of retrieval of visual-verbal associations.
