Digital accessibility concerns the design and development of Information and Communication Technology products and services in a manner that guarantees that they can be used without hindrance by individuals with disabilities. Although digital accessibility attracted the attention of scholars and practitioners in the Human-Computer Interaction field as early as 1980, and has seen commendable advancements across various domains, there are still several challenges to be addressed even in contexts in which the topic is well defined such as the web, mobile applications, and games. Today, the digital accessibility landscape is further compounded by emerging and contemporary technologies, such as Extended Reality, Intelligent Environments, and Artificial Intelligence. Considering the above, this chapter carries out a review of digital accessibility endeavours in the aforementioned domains and provides comprehensive guidance on the methodologies to attain and evaluate accessibility, while also delving into the discourse of open challenges and future directions that lie ahead.
