The tourism industry in Vietnam has experienced impressive growth and become an integral part of the global economy. Considering the post-COVID-19 period, the industry not only remains alert to potential challenges but also capitalizes on available growth opportunities. Sustainable development hinges on the delivery of high-quality products and services by a proficient workforce that prioritizes visitor satisfaction. For better integration into the global tourism economy, this research suggests using the knowledge, skills, and attitude (KSA) competency model and the ASEAN mutual recognition agreement for tourism professionals (ASEAN MRA-TP) to establish and evaluate professional competency standards for the Board of Management (BOM), heads of departments, and supervisors in the State-owned accommodation sector. The study identifies areas where the workforce needs to improve their skills and recommends various training programs, both short-term and long-term, to enhance their productivity. Continuous updates and on-the-job training are necessary for BOM and departments’ heads, supervisors as well as lower levels, to keep up with government policies, market trends, and customer demands in the hospitality industry.
