This article presents a critical discourse analysis of perceptions of Nigerian Pidgin among the Nigerian diaspora. It comprises an analysis of texts, discursive strategies, and their manifestation as social discursive patterns of attitude formation towards the language. The findings identify accessibility and denouncement as the two predominant social discourses influencing attitudes towards Nigerian Pidgin. The article argues that attitudes towards Nigerian Pidgin emerge as dynamic, interpretative processes, challenging static notions embedded in mentalist and behaviourist frameworks. The study concludes that these social discourses reflect broader attitudinal patterns, which underpin evaluative stances towards the language.
