In today’s technology-centric library landscape within higher academic and research institutions, most library services rely heavily on technology. This necessitates that Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals possess specific competencies to adapt to the rapidly evolving work environment. To assess the diverse professional skills of LIS professionals, we have utilized CAVAL competency skills. Additionally, we have incorporated the established Big Five personality traits to delineate the various personality dimensions of LIS professionals. Two sets of online questionnaire are used to collect data on the basis of which scores for the competency skills and personality traits have been generated. These scores are then used to study the relationship between the competency skills and personality traits. In our research, we endeavor to formulate a Personality-Related Selection Model (PRSM) to investigate the correlation between competency skills and personality traits. Our model demonstrates that the competency skills of LIS professionals are influenced by their distinct personality dimensions, indicating that personality assessments can predict the competency skills of these professionals. Consequently, our model holds promise in informing the development of recruitment policies for LIS professionals within higher academic and research institutions.
