The paper explores the attitudes of students about music lessons at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Montenegro, under two study programmes: Preschool Teacher Education and Teacher Education, with an emphasis on the teaching content, the teaching conditions, and their competences as future pedagogues. The survey was carried out on the sample of 131 students (N = 131) future preschool and generalist teachers. The results of the research show that students believe that they acquire the competencies necessary for their future professional activities in the context of music education while attending university. They perceive that the content they are required to master within music courses is neither overly challenging nor excessively easy. Furthermore, the majority express satisfaction with the conditions under which music instruction is conducted.
