Parent-child museum visits (PCMV) are recognized as valuable educational experiences, yet little is known about the relationships between the frequency of PCMV and adolescents' openness to experience (OE) and emotional stability (ES) - two developmental outcomes with long-lasting effects on their developmental trajectory and increasing international attention. To fill this gap, this study examined the association between PCMV frequency and adolescents' OE/ES using nationally representative data from the China Education Panel Survey (CEPS). To capture accumulated experiences gained from sustained participation in PCMV, PCMV frequency was categorized into high- and low-frequency groups based on the national median, which represents the "normal level", as the cut-off. Ordinary least squares (OLS) regression and propensity score matching (PSM) were used, followed by dosage-effect analyses. Results showed that above-normal PCMV frequency had no significant association with OE (ATT = 0.010, SE = 0.046, T = 0.23) but was significantly positively associated with ES (ATT = 0.126, SE = 0.049, T = 2.56). Associations estimated without controlling for museum-like cultural leisure activities were inflated. Dosage-effect analysis indicated that associations between PCMV and OE were observed when participation occurred "once a month or more" and "once a week or more"; meanwhile, associations between PCMV and ES were observed when participation occurred "once every six months or more" and "once a month or more"; both sets of associations weakened beyond certain thresholds. These findings suggest that optimizing PCMV frequency, rather than maximizing it, is linked to the most positive developmental outcomes.
