Globalization, Adult Education and Training: Impacts and Issues

Abstract

Adult education and training have traditionally had strong demarcation lines between them, but there are recent indications that the lines are beginning to blur. This book is a collection of critical reflections on adult education and training arising from an international conference entitled 'Adult education and training in reconstruction and development: lessons from the south and north' held in Cape Town, South Africa in November 1995. Participants in the conference included 150 leading academics, professional practitioners and educational activists from more that 25 countries. A wide range of education and training strategies in different sites of practice are explored and examples are given. The notion of lifelong learning, its meaning and implementation, is considered.
