The KONTIV type traffic census has, so far, not taken into account the rather relevant factor that is related to daily traffic movements, namely the impact of a long-term decision on the choice of a domicile. For the first time, as a result of the Berlin-Brandenburg traffic census of 1998 when large numbers of travellers were interviewed, it has become possible to establish a link between the mobility related to a chosen domicile and daily traffic movements. This has highlighted the long-term significance of earlier domiciles with regard to daily movements especially in those cases where there has been a change in domicile from the inner city to the surrounding countryside. Whenever interviews are carried out, a question should be included with regard to the location of earlier domiciles. This factor should be given due consideration in the case of traffic evaluation models.
