Abstract

The Prism Constrained Activity Travel Simulator (PCATS) is a micro-simulator of individuals' daily activity and travel under space-time and travel mode constraints. The Dynamic Event-Based Network Simulator (DEBNetS) is a micro-meso-scale network simulator in which individual vehicles' movements are represented by u-k relationships in short and uniform link segments. These two micro-simulators are integrated to form a demand forecasting and policy analysis tool for regional transportation planning. Auto trips generated by PCATS are fed to DEBNetS along a continuous time axis. The integrated model system is applied to evaluate the short-term effectiveness of CO2 reduction measures in the City of Kyoto, and alternative long-range transportation investment and management plans in the City of Osaka. The evaluation of the planning measures takes advantage of the extensive outputs of the model system, including individuals' time use patterns.
