Contemporary transformations taking place in the nature of work demand flexible and reflective workers capable of keeping up-to-date with constantly changing technology. This chapter describes informal learning and its role for the development of individuals in workplaces. It is structured around a comprehensive workplace learning model, which may serve as a reference background for understanding the informal learning that happens between individuals at work. Before the presentation of this model, a brief critical analysis is made of the concept of workplace learning and of its formality, ending with a look at the different levels of analysis of learning, according to the current literature. The chapter discusses typology of learning based on the induction of learning opportunities at the workplace and to its possible outcomes. It finally draws on some research studies and concludes with suggestions for future investigation.
