Developing and Evaluating Library Research Skills in Education: A Model for Course-Integrated Bibliographic Instruction.

Abstract

This paper describes the pilot project of library research in struction introduced at Lake Forest College. The project focuses on faculty-centered library research instruction whereby faculty in the Department of Education and in struction librarians design library experiences that are in tegrated into required course assignments. The program began with a preliminary investigation of background ma terials, was supplemented with the development of search strategies using a small number of significant and typical sources, and culminated in an online computer search. Data obtained from this research strongly suggest that stu dents' skills in conducting library research and their atti tudes toward such efforts were significantly improved.
