Technology-based selection continues to become more technologically advanced and increasingly draws on automated and computerized approaches. This chapter talks about applicant reactions to high-tech selection to date and what issues need to be considered further in the future. First, it focuses on some of the more high-tech procedures that are available and more widely used by employers including online selection and recruitment. Next, the chapter provides a brief discussion of Gilliland’s model of applicant reactions and uses it to organize a discussion of the effects of high-tech procedures on reactions. Additionally, for each of Gilliland’s ten procedural justice rules, the chapter also addresses challenges, benefits, and recommendations for practice. It finally explains how recommendations for practice may be extrapolated from other applicant reactions research and discusses new ideas generated from applicant reactions research.
