The economic models of addictive behaviour have developed several theoretical approaches which, in spite of their common aspects, also imply significant differences. These differences stem basically from the assumptions on the structure of the preferences of the consumer, the level of rationality attached to the election, as well as from the incorporation of the effects of the information and the uncertainty. This work reviews these and other key aspects of the economic analysis of the addictive unhealthy patterns of behaviour with the aim of reflecting the different stances of the economic theoreticians in the last decades as regards the approach to this analysis and their most relevant ideas and conclusions.
