Literature reviews of spirituality in the workplace expose the breadth of the phenomenon but also reveal the need to connect this literature with other research areas within management. In particular, the work–home (WH) interface is commonly viewed as having significant overlap with spirituality, yet the connections between spirituality and the WH interface have received limited attention. Therefore, we offer a theoretical framework to encourage and guide research linking these two important areas. Empirical studies suggest that spirituality is associated with such personal characteristics as hope, optimism, and sanctification as well as with such relational characteristics as forgiveness, gratitude, and interconnectedness. We illustrate how these personal and relational spiritual characteristics can determine whether individuals’ work and home roles interfere with one another or whether they strengthen or enrich one another. We also propose a number of areas for future research.
