Reciprocal Accommodation: A Model for Reducing Gender Bias in Managerial Communication

Abstract

Because the intricacy of language suggests that it both creates and reflects women'sroles in society, reciprocal accommodation may be the best way for women to achieveinfluential positions in management. Reciprocal accommodation is a collaborativeprocess whereby women practice empowering communication strategies while those already in positions of authority actively acknowledge women's right to those strategiesand the power they represent.
