Abstract

Highlights► We examine the value of national sporting success using contingent valuation method. ► Willingness-to-pay for winning the 2010 Football World Cup is assessed. ► Average WTP amounts to €26. ► Intangible factors (e.g., identification with country) significantly influence WTP.
