Frameworks for interaction provide a basic context for communication within organizations, the underlying framework for surface manifestations of communication. Five basic frameworks for communication within organizations are commonly identified: formal, exchange, sentiments, normative, and negotiated order. This research replicates and refines a Frameworks for Interaction (FINT) Scale in a study of an industrial firm (n = 124). The results suggested that the scale had acceptable measurement properties and construct validity. This research stream suggests that frameworks for interaction provide a useful new approach for examining a number of interesting theoretic and pragmatic research questions relating to organizational communication.
