Abstract

A multi-case study design is used to confirm the content of a model of the exporter/non-exporter dichotomy and the relative performance of exporters. The setting of the research in New Zealand also allows an extension of scope to exporters which are smaller than those featured in much of the previous research. The case study findings do lend support to a general model of exporting performance and, at the same time, suggest that the model does have application to smaller firms
