Abstract

The notion of a schema as a cognitive construct which combines the structural and processing aspects of knowledge is undergoing intensive research in the new interdisciplinary field of cognitive science that brings together cognitive psychology and artificial intelligence. The utility of the schema concept for cognitive anthropology is demonstrated through a controlled experimental investigation of the role of cultural schemata in story comprehension and recall.
