Summary This paper is a report of part of the results of a research project on the development of a teacher education curriculum. The effects of the educational process were investigated by inventorising the experiences of a group of beginning teachers in Secondary education. On the basis of an elaborated research of the literature in this area a choice was made of a qualitative research design. The researcher and the teacher training institute were interested in the everyday school experiences of the teachers, which were reported in diaries. To complete a rounded description of these experiences also a student questionnaire was used. Every diary period was ended with an interview. Based on all the information gathered the different problem areas were identified as described in the article. In particular, the classification of the problems of beginning teachers is important for the evaluation and reconsideration of curriculum decisions.
