Psychology of Men at Work

Abstract

70's, our review of the research literature for the last two years suggests that the field still suffe rs from the lingering aspects of a long-standing malaise: a plethora of data and a paucity of generalizable research insights and theory . While the symptoms definitely appear les s acute than a decade ago, and there are some encouraging signs of outright therapy, the problems are quite pervasive. De­ spite the fact that our journ als are burgeo ning, our gra duate schools crowded, and our users and sponsors increasingly receptive to our wares, too much of today' s research continues to address problems of limited rele­ vance to either the key iss ues of our tim es or the advancement of knowl­ edge, to be ad hoc rather than integrative, and to use questionable or at least untested metrics.
