Frameworks of analyses utilized for historical research in Latin American psychology can be summed up\naccording to four different points of view: a) the history of psychology in its most universal sense, b) the history\nof psychology within the geographical limits of Latin America, c) the history of psychology within that country\nchosen for study, and d) local history. During the last few decades, the historiography referred to the psychology\nof the continent produced an important number of studies for nearly all of the countries in the region, including\nParaguay. For teaching purposes, the history of Paraguayan psychology began no more than 10 years ago in the\nform of conferences, specific seminars or as topics included in some courses dealing with the history of general\npsychology. These are to be found within the curriculum as presented by a reduced number of universities. In\nterms of intellectual discipline, the historical studies are to be found in the dimension of the reflexive-critical rather than in the instrumental-practical. In light of these considerations, the central purpose of this article is to establish a\nconceptual and philosophical foundation for the teaching of history of psychology. Furthermore, it enumerates the\nteaching objectives which can serve as a guide for the study and systematic teaching of the history of psychology\nin Paraguay. Some of the main implications of these studies and their value to psychology in general are discussed\nin the conclusion.
