Significant barriers have been identified in the \ntransition from school and college to employment \namong young persons with learning disabilities \n(LD), though factors that appear to facilitate that \ntransition have been also been identified. The current \npaper examines the transition from school of 87 \nyoung people with LD, with interviews occurring \nboth in their last year of school and six months post \ngraduation. The study also reports on the vocational \nadvice given to students with LD by schools/colleges \nand external transition support organizations in \ntheir last year of school. Differences in the type of \nactivity offered were found for schools/colleges and \nthe external transition support providers. Logistic \nregression analyses revealed that work experience \nprovided by the external support organizations, as \nwell as work awareness training provided by schools/ \ncolleges were significantly related to subsequent \nemployment. Implications for transition practice are \ndiscussed.
