The role of consumer products in the creation of leisure experiences was explored as a neglected area of leisure research. In addition, empirical tests of two hypotheses which relate recreational involvement with products and various perceived satisfactions were described. A sample of 438 respondents provided data on sources of satisfaction pertaining to leisure activity centering on automobiles and clothing, as well as data which could be used to construct an index of their recreational involvement with these products. This index was correlated with each satisfaction item in order to examine basic relationships. Then, the satisfaction items were factor analyzed preliminary to a multiple regression analysis in which factors were used as predictors. Results are discussed and contrasted with recent studies of leisure satisfaction. Implications for leisure research and practice are provided.
