Decision-making researchers have identified the construct cognitive reflection to explain the variance in intuitive thinking processes that traditional ability constructs cannot. A body of researchers, however, question the validity of the construct, particularly its measurement and uniqueness. We use an item-response-tree model to evaluate interpretation of cognitive reflection test scores. Findings indicate the measure is not an appropriate measure for intuitive thinking and that it is not sufficiently distinct from general mental ability.
