Research has indicated that university libraries can make students' transition to university difficult because of the difference in terms of scale and specialism with the libraries used in high school. Thus, some high schools and university libraries have collaborated to give students the opportunity to use university libraries while still at high school. This study elucidates the effects of enabling high school students to experience using university libraries at an early stage in terms of their thinking and behavior. Retrospective interviews were conducted with 11 students who graduated from a high school with a university library partnership. Using a modified grounded theory approach, 563 min of utterances were recorded and analyzed. The results indicated that by using the university library in high school, students understood the significance of using multiple information sources, thus enabling them to smoothly transit to a university level. In cases where students were unable to make full use of the university library during their time at high school, a positive effect was nonetheless confirmed on their transition to university, suggesting that university library access at an earlier stage contributed toward reducing anxiety after entering the university.
