The Supporting Parents in Early Literacy through Libraries (SPELL) Project examined strategies for libraries to effectively engage low-income parents of children aged 0–3 in early literacy practices. Using surveys and focus groups, we identified key barriers to library use, explored parent attitudes toward early literacy, and assessed outreach strategies. Findings indicate that (1) partnerships with trusted community organizations enhance parental engagement, (2) logistical barriers such as work schedules and transportation limit access, and (3) parents often value literacy but struggle to incorporate it into daily routines. These insights provide actionable recommendations for libraries to strengthen early literacy programming and outreach efforts.
