IMPACTThis article sheds light on how politicians in Italian regional governments use different information types in their activities. The authors’ findings show that macroeconomic and socio-economic information (M&SI) is being used to guide planning and policy formulation, performance information (PI) is used for evaluating results and accounting/financial information (AFI) supports resource management. Preferences varied according to education, age, background and political role. This means that information producers and accounting staff should avoid a standardized approach and, instead, tailor information, adapting sharing modes, formats and content to the roles and profiles of politicians.
