Reading and Literacy Development Early Childhood Education and Development Literacy and Educational Practices

Abstract

Viewed from the perspective of emergent literacy, sound assess ment programs possess six characteristics. Examples of prac tices based on these principles offer alternatives to standardized tests. This article emanated from work of IRA's Early Childhood and Literacy Development Committee.
