This chapter contests the currently prevalent portrayals of Vygotsky's work that present it from the viewpoint of traditional - cognitivist and individualist - notions of knowledge and science. An approach to knowledge much more inclusive of history, politics, ideology, and practices of knowledge production has been recently evolving in psychology and other social sciences, as well as in the participatory approach that places issues of power and politics at the center. Although Vygotsky did not explicitly conceptualize knowledge as a form of practical collaborative activity that relates people to each other and to the world around them, aimed at meaningfully transforming the world in accordance with ideology-driven goals and agenda, his works and the works of his colleagues laid important foundation for conceptualization. The conceptualization of science and knowledge, derived from the cultural-historical approach, directly embodies in the very life and history of this approach. Keywords: collaborative activity; ideology-driven goals; social sciences; Vygotsky's work
