Abstract

Of the many problems associated with evaluation of refer ence service, in particular the reference interview, two of the thorniest are the data collection technique and the stan dards to be applied. In 1985 Marilyn D. White described a method for applying guidelines to the reference interview for evaluative purposes. This paper reports on a trial use of this approach for reference service evaluation.
